The Research Seminar Series in Philosophy invites you to a seminar with Hannah Altehenger, "Rethinking the self-control/intelligence analogy".
Abstract: Both commonsense thinking and philosophical theorizing about self-control tend to imply that self-control is very different from general intelligence. However, in a recent contribution, Will L. Tiemeijer (2022) has convincingly argued that self-control is much more analogous to intelligence than these views suggest. Tiemeijer also discusses which consequences we should draw from the self-control/intelligence analogy. I will argue that we can derive much stronger consequences than Tiemeijer allows.
