Carl Kempe salen (KB.E3.03), KBC
Welcome to the KBC DAYS 2024, an annual interdisciplinary conference scheduled to take place on 5-6 November at KBC!
This conference aims to foster collaborations between different departments and research centres affiliated with the Chemical Biological Centre, KBC, including departments from two faculties of Umeå University as well as from the Faculty of Forest Sciences, SLU. Each year, we also select a special theme of general interest for the research community at KBC. This year's scientific focus will be on "Sensing".
By attending KBC DAYS 2024, you will:
Have a chance to listen to the keynote lectures and other presentations exploring "Sensing” in a broad sense, covering various techniques in different scientific fields used to detect biological or physical signals, converting them into signals read by a researcher or an instrument and thus “sense” the world around us.
Gain insights into what has currently or recently happened at KBC by listening to exciting scientific talks from new faculty members of the KBC environment, awardees and researchers who received major grants in the last year, presentations by PhD students, activities organised by the Umeå Postdoc Society (UPS).
Learn or update yourself about the research infrastructures and research support units available at KBC and Campus Umeå, get to know more about their services and join the guided tours to the infrastructure facilities.
Have plenty of opportunities to network with your colleagues, participate in engaging discussions and come up with new ideas and new collaborations.
Have a chance to visit mini-exhibitions presented by sponsoring companies in the mingling area and learn about their products.
Learn more on the KBC DAYS 2024 web page, where you will find a preliminary, continuously updated programme. Check also for pre-registration for the activities organised in the frame of the KBC DAYS 2024.
Information for PhD students: If you are a PhD student, particularly a “midterm PhD student” (approximately halfway through your PhD studies), we encourage you to present your project during the KBC DAYS in the form of a short “elevator talk” and a poster to discuss it with conference participants.
The best presentation will be awarded a travel voucher!
To help you present yourself and your project in the best way, we offer you to participate in the three-day “Science Communication: Elevator pitch” course on 8, 15, and 22 October. If space allows, some Postdoctoral fellows may be admitted to the course.
Questions? If you have any questions about the event organisation or registration, do not hesitate to get in touch with the KBC Communications Office at info.kbc@umu.se.
