The Research Seminar Series in Philosophy invites you to a seminar with Luise Mirow, "Pictorial Lies and Commitment".

Abstract: In the first part of this talk, I will identify the most interesting cases of lying with pictures. In the second part of the talk, I will discuss whether Viebahn’s (2019; 2021) commitment-based account of lying can account for those most interesting cases of pictorial lies. I will raise some issues that have to do with questions like “What exactly is one committed to when communicating by means of a picture?” and “Can we distinguish lying from merely misleading in the case of pictorial communication?”.
