Emergency remote teaching (ERT) vs. effective online learning

There are qualitative differences between well-planned online learning experiences and courses offered online in response to emergencies (ERT). such as Covid-19. As we return to the ‘new normal’, gradually moving back to campus, many agree that a return to teaching and learning practices prior to Covid-19 is both unwise and practically impossible. To take advantage of the experiences gained during lockdown, it is necessary to highlight strengths and identify weaknesses in course delivery over the past 18 months while at the same time understanding the differences between ERT and well-planned online courses.

Welcome to a discussion of these differences and current research on factors contributing to online course provision of high quality.
