About the PhD project
This research project examines the empirical phenomenon of community entrepreneurship in rural areas. More specifically, the project explores how rural communities organize collective entrepreneurial initiatives as a response to service infrastructure decline, aiming to disentangle mechanisms of community entrepreneuring in the context of rural areas of northern Sweden. The project is conducted in form of multiple qualitative case studies of community enterprises located in rural areas of Norrbotten and Västerbotten. The overall aim of the project is to advance the knowledge on bottom-up entrepreneurial initiatives in providing social services in rural contexts and to contribute to theoretical discussions in the fields of sustainable entrepreneurship and rural development.
