About the PhD project

The aim of this PhD project is to analyse assemblages of samråda in transformation processes in Swedish municipalities where Sámie language rights are strengthened. Samråda is an institutionalised social practice initiated by municipalities to give Sámie people the possibility to influence and participate in decision making. It has different shapes and is by a diversity of actors strategically and for multiple purposes used in assembling Sámie language policy.

Lieuwe Jan Hettema is a doctoral student in linguistics with focus on language policy and planning regarding the Sámie languages at the Department of Language Studies, and the Arctic Graduate School
