Obesity and type 2 diabetes: Understanding the role of ethnicity

Julia Goedecke holds a position as honorary associate professor at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, and has the same position at the University of Cape Town.

She studies the ethnical aspect of developing lifestyle diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. A huge network of contacts has led to in-depth knowledge on the differences in the disease progression between African and Caucasian women in South Africa. Over a long period of time, Umeå University has had a productive collaboration with Julia Goedecke, which has resulted in co-publishing results within public health and clinical medicine, joint funding and joint supervision of doctoral students.

Julia Goedecke will be promoted as honorary doctor of medicine at the Annual Celebration Ceremony on 20 October at 17:00 in Aula Nordica.
