Laura Cemin performes "O (white cube, bouncy ball)" in conjunction to her installation in the exhibition "Meanwhile / Umeå Academy of Fine Arts" on floor 6.
In her work Laura Cemin looks at the relationship between movement and language and how this language shapes and influences the way we think and physically interact. She is interested in the physicality of the body and its awareness, as well as what is expected of it by society.
“You are a square, and you will never be a ball”. The work "O (white cube, bouncy ball)" is an installation with a related performance that reflects upon perfection, demands and high expectations projected on the human body. The performance is a choreographed routine on the borderline between fitness training, breathing exercises and modern dance. Starting from different expressions (some personal, some collectively repeated), the performer guides the audience through questions, images and bodily sensations.
About the Master’s degree exhibition "Meanwhile / Umeå Academy of Fine Arts": In stories, the word ‘meanwhile’ transfers us to an event taking place at the same time but in a place offset from the main event. Meanwhile is a signal to raise our attention. We are transported to this other place because what is about to happen there will soon have an impact on the development of the story.
