Anna-Britt Coe is a Professor of Sociology at Karlstad University with extensive experience in research on social movements, power relations, and research practice. She works with qualitative and action-oriented methods, exploring how science and social engagement can both collaborate and challenge each other.
In this lecture, Anna-Britt Coe will discuss different types of relationships between research (science) and activism. Examples include researching activism as an object of study, challenging power relations (a form of activism) within a research field, and using research methods that question power structures in society and foster engagement among study participants. She will also address activism for science itself, and the risks that arise when, within or outside academia, science is disregarded in the pursuit of political agendas.
