On 4 March, the Truth Commission for the Sami People will submit a comprehensive collection of current Sami research to the Government, the Sami Parliament, and Saminuorra at Umeå University. The anthology contains 36 texts by more than 50 authors and spans 22 subject areas. During the ceremony, three of the chapter authors will present their contributions, two of whom – Charlotta Svonni and Gudrun Norstedt – are affiliated with Várdduo, the Centre for Sami Research at Umeå University.
Since 2021, the Truth Commission has been tasked with examining the state’s historical policies towards the Sami and highlighting their consequences, as well as proposing measures that may contribute to redress and reconciliation.
