Umeå School of Architecture warmly welcomes employees, students and the public to a panel talk and release event of Arkitektur no 5 2026: Norröver (”Towards the North”), as part of the open lecture series UMA Talks.
About the event
Welcome to an event which marks the release of a brand new issue of Arkitektur – the Swedish Review of Architecture. In it, the magazine asks: what is there to say, from down south, about the architecture of the North? It includes a deep dive into urban planning along the coming Norrbotniabanan railway Umeå–Skellefteå–Piteå–Luleå, a display of counter-cartography in contemporary Sámi art, and a portrayal of modernist architecture’s complicated relationship to hydroelectric power. In addition, an overview of new architecture projects in Northern Sweden – by international offices, local architecture practices, industrial giants and small town entrepreneurs. And much more.
The issue will be presented and discussed by a panel of contributors
Björn Ehrlemark, editor-in-chief, tidsskriften Arkitektur – the Swedish Review of Architecture Ulrika Karlsson, Brrum and KTH School of Architecture, studio Northern Grounds Alex Olofsson, editor Lavskrikan Karin Berggren, writer, architect and urban planner, Umeå kommun
