Deputy Vice-Chancellor Cathrine Norberg thanked the students for their time at Umeå University and delivered an inspiring speech to the new graduates. The ceremony was followed by mingle and photo session.
This year's student speaker was Marcos Cardoso de Souza from Brazil. He earned a Master's Degree in Public Health. In his speech, he reflected on the challenges he faced before coming to Umeå and the diversity of the student group within his programme.
The alumni speaker was Jessica K. Ljungberg, who earned her PhD in Public Health and Clinical Medicine at Umeå University in 2006. She is now Professor of Engineering Psychology at Luleå University of Technology. During her motivational speech, she highlighted the role of universities as spaces for free thinking, curiosity, and critical reflection.

On 25 May 2023, students from 43 international master’s programmes were honoured at the annual Graduation Ceremony held at Umeå University. There was a record number of students in attendance with over 260 students from more than 50 countries.
2022
For the first time since 2019, Umeå University’s Graduation Ceremony for International Master's Programmes was celebrated in Aula Nordica, Campus Umeå. Almost 170 students from nearly 50 countries and 32 programmes attended the celebration along with 300 guests.
