A WAG (writing accountability group) is a writing group for researchers and postdocs where they hold each other accountable for writing, ensuring that writing happens and writing plans are hopefully fulfilled. The writing process can be lengthy, and it is easy to procrastinate, but being in a writing group can help.
WAG makes it easier to follow your plan for writing
A WAG (writing accountability group) is useful for researchers and postdocs who can feel at times that writing may feel isolating and easy put off for later. Participants in WAG set aside scheduled time for their writing and can experience a sense of accountability for their writing and towards others in the group. This can make it easier to follow through on plans for writing in between the sessions when you have shared your plan with others.
How does WAG work?
The WAG group meets via Zoom for one hour each week for 10 weeks. Everyone needs to commit to attending at least 7 of the 10 sessions. The group facilitator is a writing teacher from the library.
Each session begins with each person sharing
how did your plan with writing turn out last week
what writing are you going to work on during this session.
At the end of the session, we share
how did today’s writing session go
what are your plans for writing for the rest of the week.
You can work with different types of texts, for example, journal articles, applications, presentations.
Who can participate in WAG?
WAG is open to all researchers and postdocs at Umeå University.
When do we meet?
The fall WAG group will meet on Mondays from 10-11. We begin with an orientation meeting on 15 September. The first WAG session starts on Monday, 22 September and we finish on Monday, 1 December.
All sessions take place via Zoom and you are expected to participate in at least 7 of the 10 sessions.
