Our libraries

Umeå University Library consists of three libraries. The University Library, the Medical Library and the Arts Campus Library.

Current information about changes in the libraries

At present, a large part of the University Library is closed due to renovation. There are fewer study spaces, and many books need to be requested from closed stacks.

The Medical Library is being restructured, which means that books and library services are being moved to the University Library. Study spaces and a reference collection of course literature will remain at the hospital campus location.

University Library

The University Library is located in the Social Sciences building in the middle of campus.

The library has literature in most subject areas and a student textbook collection for all of the undergraduate courses at Umeå University. The University Library has study areas, bookable group study rooms, Learning Space UB, and computer rooms. There are also bookable resource rooms for students who need an extra calm environment or adaptations when studying.

Medical Library

The Medical Library is located at the University Hospital.

The library has books, journals, and other resources in medicine, odontology, nursing, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy. The Medical Library is mainly intended for students and staff at the Faculty of Medicine but is also open to staff at the hospital, patients and the general public. The library's bright, open space has many study areas and ten bookable group study rooms.

Arts Campus Library

The library is located in the centre of the Arts Campus together with Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, the Institute of Design, the School of Architecture, Curiosum, and Bildmuseet.

The library books, journals, and electronic resources are oriented toward contemporary art, architecture, and design. The Arts Campus Library is aimed at students, researchers, and lecturers at the art schools but is also open to the general public. The library has study areas and bookable group study rooms. There is also a bookable resource room for students who need an extra calm environment or adaptations when studying.

Medical Library

From Monday 4 May until the end of the semester, the Medical Library will be staffed Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00.
