Getting to Aurora and navigating inside the building
Aurora is centrally located on Campus Umeå next to Aula Nordica and Universum. The building has seven levels that house halls for written exams and lecture rooms, as well as offices, study places and a café. The building is divided into two sections, A and B, with a stairwell for accessing each section. On level 3 you can access both stairwells, and also the campus corridor with access to the Natural Sciences building (Naturvetarhuset) and Universum.
Are you going to sit a written exam in the new building? Check your schedule on the Student website to see which building and which examination hall you should go to. The room code shows the level and in what section of the building the room is located.
To make utilisation of the facilities more efficient, they have been made flexible. Five of them will be used for both teaching and examinations: Andromeda, Cassiopeia, Perseus, Pollux and Vega. Two of them, Castor and Atlas, will be used solely for examinations.
Vintergatan contains a number of individual rooms for students who need adjusted exams. There are rooms for smaller groups and fittings for students with special needs.
During peak examination periods, such as the last days of the study period, external premises will still be used to satisfy demand. As in the past, the external facilities used will be IKSU, Nolia and to some extent Ersboda Folkets hus as well as lecture rooms in other parts of the campus.
Study areas have been created in several of the common areas in Aurora, and in total the building has about 90 study places. There are two study areas directly adjacent to the main entrance to cater for different needs: one on level 1 providing secluded, quiet study places, while on level 2 the study area is more open, inviting social interaction. The campus corridor is on level 3 where there are study places both in the corridor and in the link to the Natural Sciences building (Naturvetarhuset). There are also meeting areas outside all examination halls where you can sit.
A café will be opening on level 3 in Aurora. The property owner Akademiska Hus is currently procuring a restaurateur and the café is expected to open during the autumn semester 2025.
