NEWS
On 14 April, one of the library’s e‑book providers, EBSCO, will introduce a new form of digital rights management (DRM) for its e‑books. The change affects users who download entire e‑books from EBSCO to read offline, but does not affect users who read e‑books directly in the web browser. E‑books from other providers, such as Ebook Central, are not affected by this change.
The DRM determines which reading software can be used to open the e‑books you download to your computer, tablet or mobile phone. As EBSCO is changing its DRM, you will need to make sure that you use a reading app that supports the new protection.
How this affects users of the library’s e‑books
If you download entire e‑books from EBSCO to read offline, you will need to use a reading app that supports EBSCO’s new DRM. One example of a compatible app is PocketBook Reader, which is available for desktop, mobile phones and tablets. EBSCO recommends Thorium Reader, which is currently only available for dekstop.
This change does not affect users who:
read e‑books directly in their web browser;
download e‑books from other providers, for example Ebook Central; or
download individual chapters of e‑books from EBSCO.
