NEWS Beginners' courses in Spanish and Italian are among the courses at Umeå University that had the highest number of applicants when registration for the spring semester 2026 closed 15 October. In addition, the number of applicants for beginners' courses in German and Russian has increased since 2024.

Although the number of applications for beginners' course in Spanish decreased slightly since the spring semester of 2025, it is the course at Umeå University with the second highest number of first choice applicants. The number of applications for beginners' courses in Italian and Russian increased by 10.3 percent, and the beginners' course in German saw an increase of 10.9 percent.
