Exchange studies Spring semester 2026

NEWS Would you like to do something different during the spring semester of 2026? Now you have a new opportunity to apply for exchange studies in several exciting countries – both within Europe and further afield, such as Asia and North America. The application opens 15th August and the deadline is 5th September 2025.

The exchange places that are currently available are places through Umeå University's comprehensive agreements, which means that all students can apply – regardless of their programme! In the spring of 2026, you can study in, for example:

Europe: Italy, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and the Nordic countries.

Outside Europe: Hong Kong, India, Japan, China, Mexico, Macau, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States.

Studying abroad is more than just studying – you get to know new cultures, make friends for life, and develop both personally and academically. Plus, it's a great way to strengthen your CV!

One of the students who has been on exchange through Umeå University is Katja Korniienko, who studied for a semester in Barcelona, Spain.

‘I came home from my exchange studies with lots of memories for life, and part of me will always remain in Barcelona,’ says Katja.

Many students say that their exchange period was the best time of their lives, sometimes even life-changing.

Emelie Fahlman, who studied at the Umeå School of Business and Economics and Statistics, is one of them.

‘I grew so much as a person during my semester in South Korea. It gave me a new perspective on life,’ says Emelie, who did her exchange at Chung-An University.

So, are you keen to try something new during the 2025/2026 academic year? Check out the opportunities below and apply by 5 September!

In Umeå University's exchange agreement database, Solemove, you can read more about the universities  that you can apply to for the spring semester 2026. Find out more via the application links below.

Remaining exchange places Spring 2026

Exchange places in the Nordic countries are mainly available through the Nordlys exchange programme, while places in the rest of Europe are part of Erasmus+. You can often receive a scholarship for these places.

The places that are now open for application for spring 2026 are those that were not filled in the previous application round for the 2025/2026 academic year (so-called remaining places). If you have previously accepted an exchange place for the 2025/2026 academic year at another university, you cannot obtain a place in this round.

Remember to start your application in good time. For example, you will need to talk to your study counsellor about the courses you intend to apply for. Application deadline is 5th September.
