Adato is an IT system provided by the supplier Miljödata, used at Umeå University to support the rehabilitation process for employees. The supplier has recently been subjected to a cyberattack and has therefore shut down the system to conduct a security investigation.
At present, there is no information indicating that any data has been leaked or fallen into the wrong hands. Umeå University is closely monitoring the situation and is in ongoing dialogue with the supplier, who is working intensively to resolve the issue.
As the system contains personal data, the university’s data protection officer has filed an incident report in accordance with Umeå University’s IT security procedures.
Adato and Miljödata are used by many municipalities, universities, and regions in various ways. At Umeå University, Adato is used solely as system support in the rehabilitation process for university employees. The system therefore does not contain any other employee data or information about students.
Update – 29 August: Work following the recent cyberattack remains in an intensive phase. At present, there is no indication that any data has been leaked or accessed by unauthorised parties. Miljödata, the supplier of the Adato system, is continuing its thorough investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the system has been reinstalled with strengthened security measures to help prevent future attempts at unauthorised access.
Umeå University is closely monitoring the situation.
