On 3 June, the first network meeting for research data support was held at Umeå University. The network is to collaborate on research data issues by gathering university-wide and local support functions. The network welcomes new members working with research data support at the University.
To encourage and build on the initiatives taken by both university-wide support functions and individual faculties and departments, the research data management project has developed a decentralised support model in the form of a network for structured cooperation between university-wide and local support functions. The goal of the network is to:
promote operational influence and development; promote open science;
enhance the quality of research data support; and
provide those working with research data support at institutions and faculties with a platform to raise challenges and needs.
Launch of the network
The focus of the first network meeting was to introduce the network and discuss the participants' expectations for research data support at Umeå University. Gustav Nilsonne, Docent in Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet and Senior Adviser at the Swedish National Data Service (SND), spoke on the theme "Open Data for a Rational Society" about how open research data can promote better research.
At the meeting, the new workspace SciFile and the transcription portal Klang were presented. Both of these tools are tailored for managing research data with high protection value. Participants were also given a tour of the new website for researchers.
University-wide research data management support
The university-wide research data support consists of a cross-functional support team composed of representatives from university-wide support functions in information security, archives, open science, legal affairs, and IT support. The university-wide support team assists both departmental support functions and individual researchers.
Do you work with research data support at an institution? Then you can join the research data support network. Join the network's Teams site or contact the university-wide support team for more information. Participants in the network will receive regular newsletters and gain access to a discussion forum via the Teams site for exchange of experiences and inspiration.
Institutions that do not have local research data support are recommended to appoint a contact person to receive information disseminated within the network.
The next physical network meeting is planned for 30th September. Network meetings will be held in Swedish.
