UID alumnus praised for visionary car interior concept

NEWS UID alumnus Alvaro Sanz (IDI) has won the Grupo Antolín Design Challenge Design where students from around the world were challenged to imagine future car interior concepts.

In 2018, Alvaro graduated from the one-year-course 'Industrial Design Intensive' at UID. He then went on to study the Transportation Design MA at the Technical University of Valencia, Spain.

"UID has played quite an important role in my development as a designer. In fact, most of my designs still have a Scandinavian touch, influences that I gained in Umeå. After all, this is where I began my design career, and where I built my basis as a designer. Maybe the strong impact it had on me is due to the intensity of the UID life, or the way of teaching. Either way, I'll always keep Umeå in my mind and heart", says Alvaro Sanz.

Álvaro's project is titled ANTOLÍN VIVAR. It's a vehicle whose main attribute is being welcoming. It seeks to create an environment that makes you feel at home, a room in which the occupants simply want to be and spend time.

Álvaro's project has deserved to be the winner in all categories for its high quality throughout the design process

"Álvaro's project has deserved to be the winner in all categories for its high quality throughout the design process, its innovation and consistency in the set of the proposal. He has developed a complete interior with a design very attractive that perfectly combines and integrates new technologies and innovative and sustainable materials", said Javier Villacampa, Corporate Director of Innovation, during the award ceremony at the GRUPO ANTOLIN headquarters.

Being the winner in all four categories (ambient lighting, functional criteria, smart decorative surfaces, new materials) Alvaro Sanz received a total prize of 10,000 euros.
