Mathematical Biology

We apply and develop mathematical and computational tools to explore the intricate relationships and evolution of living systems, including uncovering the origins of biological complexity, such as multicellularity and life cycles. This research is critical for gaining a fundamental understanding of life on Earth and beyond. Much of the work in this interdisciplinary field is done at IceLab, a unique environment where researchers from diverse backgrounds, including computer science, ecology, geology, mathematics, and physics, work together to address challenging questions.
