About the research group

The unit will start in the spring of 2026 and has a long-term research mandate on military chaplaincy commissioned by the Swedish Armed Forces. In addition, the unit provides academic commissioned education for military chaplains on behalf of the Swedish Armed Forces.

The following seven thematic areas summarize the unit’s overall research orientations within military chaplaincy:

  • Society, culture, and military chaplaincy practice
  • Frameworks and concepts
  • The existential and spiritual dimension of military health
  • Existential issues, moral and spiritual injury
  • Support and recovery for military personnel and veterans
  • Military chaplains
  • Interoperability

The interdisciplinary approach includes, but is not limited to, disciplines such as sociology, psychology, education, religious studies and theology, as well as anthropology.
