Statistical models and methods to study life trajectories in the labour market and health domains
The aim of this project is to develop and apply novel statistical methods in the field of life course studies. In particular, we want to be able to study individuals’ lives trajectories from a holistic perspective, where it is acknowledged that socio economic living conditions, life styles and health are interrelated in a complex fashion.
Individual life trajectories are in this context sequences of events, for example working life events, family events, health events, etc. Swedish administrative and health linked register data cover the whole population and provide unprecedented opportunities to follow individuals throughout their life.
The focus of this project consists in analyzing individual labour market and health life trajectories, and how they relate to each other. More specifically, we plan to develop statistical models and methods with the purpose to
i) describe labour market and health life trajectories, and how they evolve from cohort to cohort,
ii) investigate early life determinants of individual labour market and health life trajectories, as well as their interaction, and
iii) study how labour market and health life trajectories affect outcomes later in life (e.g. retirement timing, health after retirement).
This project will result in new and relevant statistical tools for scientists from the social and health sciences studying living conditions and how these affect welfare and health from childhood through working life, to ageing and death.
