I received my PhD in traumatology (2009) at Umeå University, did my postdoctoral studies in aerospace medicine (2011-2018) at Karolinska Institutet, and currently conducts (2019-) research in disaster medicine at Umeå University, with a focus on complex/inaccessible/austere environments. I am an anaesthesiologist and divide my professional time with clinical duties at Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge including its disaster preparedness. I hold active patents.
A medical disaster means that available resources have become insufficient in relation to the acute need and the burden has become so high that normal quality requirements can no longer be maintained despite adequate measures. My research ultimately aims to prevent this from happening.
