Maud started her studies in Australia focusing on Microbiology and Immunology gaining an associate degree and went to the Netherlands where she completed her Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Maastricht.

During her master's degree at Umeå University, she did her thesis about the vector competence of Swedish mosquitoes for the Usutu virus in Olivia Wesula Lwande's lab. In her following PhD research, she delves further into the vector competence of different mosquito species for various mosquito-borne diseases and investigate the molecular interactions between mosquitoes and pathogens.
