I split my time between clinical work as an attending physician in infectious disease medicine in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Sunderby Hospital, Luleå, and research at the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Umeå University.

One of my major research areas is in antibiotic development. Specifically a major interest is method development to bridge gaps in the antibiotic development pipeline for Neisseria gonorrhoeae – the causative agent of gonorrhea.

The other major research area is in clinical infectious disease medicine and specifically regarding the rare infection tularemia which is caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis. Tularemia is relatively common in northern Sweden which has some of the highest incidence areas in the world. Our aim is to better understand optimal diagnostics and treatment of this infection.
