Vishnu Raghuram

I am a postdoc in Laura Carroll's group. My research focuses on between-host transmission of Non-typhoidal Salmonella species and the mobility of their associated antibiotic resistance genes.

I did my master's in bioinformatics in Georgia Institute of Technology where I genomically characterized the Vibrio cholerae Type 6 Secretion System (T6SS) and studied its effects on a polymicrobial community. I completed my PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Emory University where I used Staphylococcus aureus as a model system to study large-scale genome evolution and within-host microevolution.

Currently, I am working as a postdoc in Laura Carroll lab at Umeå university on using Bayesian phylodynamics to study the transmission of different non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) species across human and livestock populations, as well as study the mobility of antibiotic resistance genes within NTS lineages. This work will help in identifying high-risk NTS lineages which can then be used to develop more effective control and prevention strategies.
