Getting your Degree

When you have completed your studies, you apply for the degree yourself. The Degree Evaluation Office at Umeå University makes all decisions regarding degree certificate matters. Your application will be checked against applicable national and local higher education qualification rules. Apply for your Bachelor's or Master's degree in Portalen. Apply for your Degree

The degree requirements valid at the time when you apply for your degree determines whether the degree certificate can be issued or not. Degree requirements are listed in the Higher Education Ordinance and the local Umeå University degree ordinance (written in Swedish).

All degrees have their own specific requirements, which are established in local degree descriptions (written in Swedish).

Architecture Degrees

Students who have completed the Master Programme in Architecture and Urban Design (120 credits) can acquire a Degree of Master of Fine Arts, 120 Credits, with Architecture as the Main Field of Study, and Architecture and Urban Design as specialisation (written in Swedish).

Students who have completed the Master programme Laboratory of Immediate Architectural Intervention (120 credits) can acquire a Degree of Master of Fine Arts, 120 Credits, with Architecture as the Main Field of Study and with the Specialisation of Immediate Architectural Intervention (written in Swedish).

Students who have completed the Master programme Laboratory of Sustainable Architectural Production (120 credits) can acquire a Degree of Master of Fine Arts, 120 Credits, with Architecture as the Main Field of Study and with the Specialisation of Sustainable Architectural Production (written in Swedish).

Students who have completed the five-year Architectural Programme (300 credits) can acquire a Master of Architecture, 300 Credits (written in Swedish).

Apply for your Degree in Portalen

By signing in to Portalen with your user account at Umeå University (Umu-id), you can apply for a Bachelor´s or Master´s degree. After you have applied, you can also follow the handling of your application in Portalen.

In Portalen, you will find the degree application service on the tab Mina studier (My studies) and in the menu under Apply for a degree.

Please note that if you wish to apply for more than one degree, you will have to send in a separate application for each degree.

Remember to choose English as set language in Portalen.

If, for technical or other reasons, you are unable to apply for your degree in Portalen, you may use a paper application form instead. Contact Infocenter if you want a paper application form sent to you by regular mail.

Processing Time

The processing time varies during the year depending on the number of applications received and the complexity of the application. The processing time is normally within 60 days. If your degree application entails a decision on transfer of credit, processing time may be extended.
