"How might we"
Almmie - The Future of Language Nest
When a language disappears with its last speaker, a vast archive of human history and accumulated wisdom is made inaccessible to its own descendants and to the rest of the world. Umesámi is spoken today by about a hundred people. Álgguogåhtie, an umesámi association, works with language nests to revitalize umesámi as a language.
This design project explores how design can further promote language revitalization work through language nests. Through digital solutions, thresholds for participation are lowered and umesámi can take an ever larger place in everyday life and offer greater opportunities for interpersonal language learning.
Almmie is a digital service that creates the opportunity to integrate the umesámi language use into everyday life more seamlessly.
