Ebbo

Degree Project 2021

Water is a finite resource that we humans depend on to survive. Despite this, most people living in Scandinavia take clean drinkable water for granted. When a resource doesn’t cost much, and we have access to it 24/7, we can easily forget how limited the world’s water resources are. We need to be modest with it and value water more than ever before. Because if we don’t shed light on this topic now and act, we might not have the same water luxury in the future.

This project focuses on young adults between 18-30 living in rental apartments in Sweden. How can we make this target group more aware of their water consumption?

My goal is to raise awareness about this global challenge by making the amount of water young Swedish people consume every day more visible. It is my hope to reduce water consumption at home through design.

The outcome is a combination of physical and digital solutions aiming to help the user track and visualise the water they use in the shower. The product family name is Ebbo from ”Ebb och flod”, a Swedish word for tide - the rise and fall of sea levels.

Ebbo contains:

  • A wall-mounted clock
  • A meter that you screw on to the shower
  • An app to track your water use
