AvyBuddy
he purpose of this work has been to examine how and what types of tools that can enhance avalanche safety for freeskiers in backcountry terrain. Risk assessment regarding avalanche danger is complex and hard to judge, even for the experienced recreationist. Most tools used today are aids for when an avalanche have been set off and for handling after the event. The tool developed through this work is meant to prevent avalanche accidents.
The design of this tool means to help freeskiers be more aware of their decisions to combine the tool with existing techniques. The tool is of a pedagogical character.
This work has followed a design process according to the double diamond method. Interviews with users and the feedback from users have been of immense importance for the decision making and choice of concept.
The end result is the AvyBuddy, a product that will help the user become aware on signs of avalanche danger and to reflect over route selection and decisions.
