bloom
Over 70'000 individuals are experiencing stress related sick leave every year in Sweden alone, how might we help companies prevent that from happening?
The aim became to offer a first step towards this vision by designing a simple system for managing stress at small companies. The system is based on the same framework as fire drills and introduces employees to briefing, training and clear call to action in the event of external help being needed. Watch video pitch here
During conventional on boarding and annual checkup meetings the employees are subjected to an introduction in stress management as well as a simple exercise for reflecting on their lifestyle, commonly used in clinical psychology. In case of support being needed there are several clear calls to action, besides getting advice on how to raise the matter to a manager or contacting a psychologist, the employee has the option to practice stress management by using an interactive writing helper. The helper offers to walk the individual through a trail of thought that will lead them to concrete action on how to create a more sustainable lifestyle.
Both the light training booklet and the interactive helper are based on a therapy form used in clinical psychology called Acceptance Commitment Therapy, "ACT" for short. The idea of the treatment is to make individuals define what is meaningful to themselves and then take concrete steps towards those values. The documented effects of "ACT" shows decreased levels of both stress and burnout, as well as a general improved quality of life. The bloom system has been developed and validated by industry professionals in both clinical and organizational psychology and aims to bring employees some level of personal control when managing stressful lifestyles as well as connecting them to professional help earlier, when in need.
