By 2030 the World Health Organization expects a projected shortfall of eighteen million nurses and midwifes.
Additionally multiple studies show increased turnover rates the last two years due to unmet expectations and the effects of the pandemic, increasing the demand on healthcare systems worldwide even more. To address the shortage new education and training modalities must be created to educate more healthcare professionals in the future. Clinical procedures are complex and require a holistic understanding of the patient. During healthcare education those procedures have to be learned and mastered to feel confident and proficient working in clinical practice later. This leads to a high demand on educators to prepare tomorrows nurses and doctors. Due to the increasing complexity of care and education it is unlikely that learners are able to master these skills before meeting their first real patient. Therefore we need more training opportunities and establish new ways of learning.
