Mody

Degree Project 2020

In spite of efforts to make good use of commute time to reach a work-home balance benefitting both physical and mental health, it is not hard to imagine commuting in mega cities often resulting in irritating scenarios, especially when using public transportation.

This project is aiming at providing an alternative way of commuting that would allow people to refresh themselves during the journey and prepare for their activities in the best way possible.

Rather than looking at the commute as a transition from A to B I tried to envision different scenarios of the daily life and implement smart solutions that would enhance the experience through technologies. Working in collaboration with Huawei Research Center in Stockholm, who is an expert in the field of technology, I envisioned a concept where smart sensors combined with data collection, enabling a tailored experience for the customer at different levels of depth.

Mody is an interior design concept with particular focus on its interaction and user experience. Supporting the experience there is also a physical change of the seating position that happens in harmony with the user’s preferences and the time of the day.

Mody offers three different experience modes: travel, discover and surprise. They provide different levels of control and are based upon the user’s travel request as well as their trust in the smart system. The difference can be seen from the explosion of the controller in the front. With the controller totally exposed, Mody travel enables the user to take full control of the interior space and fine tune any setting manually. Mody discover will use the collected data from the surroundings and suggest the best settings for the commute. With only the top layer of controller exposed, passengers are able to click and react yes or no to them. Finally, with the controller totally sink into the the dash board, Mody Surprise will take full control over the interior space and fine tune the settings automatically to provide immersive interactive experiences.
