Hyundai Gon is all about getting out in nature, letting your adrenalin flow freely.
Gon
Gon is a pathfinder to outdoor activities among members of Generation Z. For our target group, hitting Mung is described as the feeling before and after doing sports; under the slogan of “inspiring well-being through activity” the concept looks to improve the users physical and mental health by making sports and other activities more accessible in an urban landscape. The interior design removes as much volume from the front area of the vehicle as possible we implemented a sidestick steering system, which is mounted onto the bench seat. To further increase the feeling of levitation the wide display on the dashboard turns the car “invisible”, showcasing what is directly in front of the driver. The floating seat also allows for some other practical features like a removable floor for easy cleaning while being outdoors. The exterior is maximized with untreated surfaces made to take a hit and engrave great stories behind every scratch and is embraced in orange - resembling the ‘soft collision’. No matter the outdoor gear you want to bring, Hyundai Gon can fit it and got all the tools needed secure them safely - all found in the front hood toolbox.
‘Hitting Mung’ – What if a South Korean wellness trend inspired sustainable automobility in 2030?
TD1 - 15 hp - ten weeks - fall term 2023
Background
The general ambition was to envision how a very particular wellness trend originated in South Korea could inspire the creation of multiple automotive concepts for the Hyundai brand. What if the user experience with the vehicle could help people to take care of themselves, spacing out and recharging their mental capacity to better cope with stress and the day-to-day challenges? ‘Hitting Mung’ can be compared to meditation and mindfulness, a principle also found in Zen Buddhism.
Process
Vehicle design methodology going from basic information gathering, concept definition, 2D ideation, concept selection, 3D development and presentation phases were covered. Students worked in teams of two, defining interior and exterior attributes for a shared concept.
