Echo

Strategic Design (TD1) 2025

Echo is a concept for a shared vehicle that still feels personal and emotionally engaging. Aimed at Gen Z and close-knit groups, it uses soft pixel animations and a dynamic e-ink badge to create a sense of recognition and connection. The design values identity and routine as much as technology. Inside, the vehicle features sustainable materials, including 3D-knitted textiles made from recycled plastic. Its modular layout includes cubic seating for comfort and flexibility, with an optional third row that can be replaced by private storage compartments. Echo redefines shared mobility by offering a space that adapts to its users and reflects their individuality.

About the course

In the course – Identity in Motion – students role-play as designers working in a strategic design department, with the goal to propose vehicle concepts that could shape culture. With global sustainable development goals in mind, students explore how customer needs and aspirations could be the foundation to proposing new and relevant products for Volvo Cars in the year 2030. The aim is to equip students with the tools required to identify opportunities for future offerings connecting a brand to the market in a meaningful way. Intuition, rationality and creativity are key factors to explore, allowing students to propose scalable solutions that should bring value to the company, their customers and to society as a whole.
