You now have the opportunity to nominate someone for Umeå University’s Scientific Prize in Memory of Dieter K. Müller.
Umeå University has established a scientific prize in memory of Professor Dieter K. Müller (1968–2025), whose work made a major contribution to research, internationalisation and collaboration between academia and society. Through the prize, the University wishes to honour his memory while recognising individuals who help strengthen the role of science in society.
The prize is awarded to a researcher or another individual who has made an outstanding contribution to developing, communicating or applying scientific knowledge with a clear impact on society. Particular emphasis is placed on contributions to sustainable development, preferably with relevance to northern Sweden, and on efforts that strengthen public trust in evidence-based knowledge. Nominees must combine high scientific quality with active engagement in dialogue between academia and society.
In its assessment, the prize committee will pay particular attention to the nominee’s overall contribution to the advancement of knowledge and benefit to society, their ability to communicate evidence-based knowledge, and the significance and impact of the contributions made.
The prize is worth SEK 100,000 and is awarded annually at Umeå University’s Annual Celebration. This year, the prize will be awarded at Kunskapsnoden at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm on 2 February 2027.
A lecture by the prize recipient will also be arranged in connection with the award ceremony.
Individuals both within and outside the University are welcome to nominate candidates for the prize. The prize recipient is selected by a prize committee comprising representatives of Skellefteå Municipality, Örnsköldsvik Municipality, Umeå Kommunföretag AB and Umeå University.
