The EC2U PhD Networks bring together doctoral researchers and supervisors across partner institutions to form multidisciplinary communities of expertise. By connecting mentors and PhD candidates through joint projects, interdisciplinary workshops, and research exchanges, the networks foster collaboration and innovation across diverse fields.

Activities include regular meetings, thematic workshops, and winter and summer schools, creating diverse opportunities for learning, dialogue, and joint research. The PhD Networks support the development of high-quality research while encouraging international cooperation and strengthening links across the EC2U academic community.

Sustainable Cities and Communities (SCC) PhD Network
The Sustainable Cities and Communities (SCC) PhD Network connects doctoral researchers across EC2U partner universities working on Sustainable Development Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities. Its core mission is to promote mobility, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the exchange of expertise among PhD students addressing urban and community sustainability challenges.
Coordinated by Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), the network brings together PhD students and supervisors to build a multidisciplinary community exploring topics such as urban climate, heat islands, sustainable energy systems, rural sustainability, circular economy, architecture and urban planning ans well broader urban transitions. The network is open to all PhD students at EC2U partner universities who are interested in SDG 11.
Quality Education PhD Network
The Quality Education PhD Network brings together PhD students and researchers working on themes related to Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education, including multilingualism, intercultural communication, educational sustainability, and cultural bias in learning environments. Through the framework of EC2U Virtual Institute for Quality Education (VIQE), participants are invited to engage in short-term mobilities, doctoral workshops, and young researcher forums.
Led by University of Salamanca, the network is open to all researchers committed to advancing inclusive, innovative, and culturally responsive approaches to teaching and learning across EC2U universities.
Good Health and Well‑Being PhD Network
The Good Health and Well‑Being PhD Network gathers researchers across EC2U universities who explore health from interdisciplinary perspectives linked to Sustainable Development Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being. Areas of focus include lifelong health, healthy ageing, and the social, environmental, and community factors that shape physical and mental well‑being. Participants are invited to take part in short‑term mobilities, summer schools and events creating opportunities to exchange expertise and contribute to research and training initiatives across the EC2U Alliance.
The network is part of the EC2U Virtual Institute GLADE, which connects doctoral students and researchers working on health‑related themes and supports collaboration between universities and hospitals. It is open to all researchers in EC2U partner universities committed to advancing inclusive and sustainable approaches to health and well‑being.
