Forum for Social Innovation Sweden

Umeå University is part of the national knowledge and collaboration platform Forum for Social Innovation Sweden. Our shared objective is to enhance understanding of social innovation and lay a solid foundation for developing solutions that can tackle the challenges facing society.

Simply put, social innovation involves finding new and creative ways to solve societal problems. Fair trade, libraries, public dental care, and preschools are some well-known examples that have emerged in response to different societal needs.

"To address the challenges of our time, including climate change, increased mental health issues, segregation, and an ageing population, we require innovative solutions, methodologies, and collaborative efforts. Umeå University conducts research and education that can contribute to facing these challenges, particularly in relation to the goals outlined in Agenda 2030," explains project coordinator Martin Englund.

Stronger together

As part of Forum for Social Innovation Sweden, Umeå University aims to

  • facilitate the development of new knowledge in social innovation and disseminate it widely
  • create meeting places for various societal actors.

Promoting collaboration is a crucial key to unlocking and amplifying the wealth of good ideas present among higher education institutions, regions, municipalities, businesses, non-profit organisations, citizens, and authorities.
