About the course
The course is divided into two modules:
Module 1: Theory and method, 4.5 credits
This module studies theories, models and key concepts in cognitive linguistics. The focus is on the relationship between cognition, embodied experience and linguistic meaning, as well as on authentic language in use. Students are trained in identifying, analyzing and synthesizing various linguistic phenomena on the basis of the cognitive linguistic framework.
Module 2: Individual specialization, 3.0 credits
In this module, students will carry out a practical application of the theories and methods discussed in Module 1.

Outline for distance courseThe medium of instruction is English and French. All communication is via the course learning platform. A number of seminars are conducted at specific times. More information can be found in the “welcome letter”. Access to a computer with broadband internet connection is required for participating in and completing the course tasks. For information on technical requirements, see “Technical Requirements for Online Courses” https://www.umu.se/student/sprakstudier/dokument.
Eligibility Knowledge in English equivalent of English 6/English Course B from Swedish upper secondary school. At least 90 ECTS with academic progression in French, including at least 15 ECTS corresponding to level 61-90 hp in the Swedish academic system, or equivalent knowledge.SelectionAcademic credits
