Laser-Based Spectroscopic Techniques 7.5 credits

About the course

The course covers various experimental techniques of laser spectroscopy, such as Doppler-broadened absorption spectroscopy (including cavity-enhanced and modulation techniques), fluorescence spectroscopy, non-linear spectroscopy, optical frequency comb spectroscopy, and laser cooling and trapping. The course starts with an introduction about the basics of light-matter interactions in the gas phase. Practical aspects of the spectroscopic techniques, such as instrumentation, sensitivity, resolution etc., are discussed. Examples of applications in fundamental research as well as industry, environmental science and medicine are given.
