International Business Programme

  • Number of credits 240 Credits
  • Study time 4 years (full time)
  • Starting Autumn Term 2018

Are you interested in a career in an international environment? During your studies you’ll have the opportunity to do an international internship and the opportunities for studies abroad are very good. After your studies you will have the competence and qualifications to work with international business related tasks in companies, organizations or in the public sector. The programme is offered by Umeå School of Business and Economics.

While studying

During the first three semesters in the program you take courses in business administration, statistics, economic history and economics. You then make a choice between business administration or economics as your main field of study, depending on which subject that interests you the most. In addition you study law and have the choice of elective courses. You are able to include studies abroad or an international internship in the program.

During the program you will meet students from different parts of the world, which means that you get to know and understand other cultures. If you take advantage of the opportunities for studies abroad and international internship then you will gain experience of studying as well as working in an international environment.

Business Administration
Business as a main field of study concerns the company and stakeholders around the company such as consumers, employees, suppliers and financiers. The subject also touches upon regulations concerning the company's operations such as accounting rules. Before the fourth semester you choose which subject within business administration that you wish to immerse in. It might be accounting, finance, marketing, management or business development. You can choose to specialize only in one subject or you can choose among courses in more specializations in order to create a broader education.

Economics
Economics is a main field of study that deals with how to allocate the resources we have. It's about how consumers and producers act, but also how economies work. It deals with things like what creates economic growth and international trade, why there is unemployment, how the financial and housing markets work, how we are affected by taxes, what means we can use to not over overexploit our natural resources and much more. If you choose economics, then we offer courses on a wide spectrum of topics and you have the possibility of studying for example financial economics on both basic and advanced level.

International internship

Within the International Business Programme you have the opportunity to do an international internship for ten weeks. This possibility is only available at a few business schools in the country. The internship gives you a good opportunity to put theoretical knowledge and experience into practice and show off your skills to potential employers. As a student you arrange your internship position yourself. This way you are able to find an internship position that meets your expectations and provides more opportunities for you to use the internship as an entry to the labour market.
