Academic calendar

The academic calendar at Umeå University is divided into two terms (semesters), each lasting 20 weeks. The autumn term typically begins during the beginning of September and ends in the middle of January. The spring term begins in the middle of January and ends during the early part of June.

An Orientation for new international students is typically held the week prior to the first day of classes during the autumn term and on the first day of the Spring term.

  • The date for Easter varies from March to April.

Christmas and Easter holidays

There is usually a break from classes at Umeå University during the Christmas/New Year's period and the Easter period, although the term is "technically" ongoing. The exact dates for such a break are determined by each department so please make sure to check with the programme/department to confirm the exact schedule of lectures and assignments.
