Doctoral studies involve four years of full-time study, which include a number of courses and a doctoral thesis. Besides acquiring in-depth knowledge of a field of study, you will also cultivate your critical and analytical thinking.
During your studies, you get to solve problems independently as you prepare for a professional career within academia, or the business or public sector.
Doctoral students at Umeå University are regarded as employees and also receive a salary and other standard benefits of employment. Instead of applying directly for a doctoral level programme, candidates must apply for an available doctoral position that are published on our Open positions web page.
