Contents

This course on workplace education and information- and communication technology (ICT) focus different learning processes at work. The course presents different ways in which ICT can support workplace learning and ways to implement ICT in existing learning processes. Of particular interest is the development of students´ critical abilities and reflective capabilities concerning ICT and workplace learning.

Expected learning outcomes

After the course the students should have acquired competence to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • demonstrate basic knowledge concerning current trends and issues in research about education in the workplace
  • describe how educational processes can be understood by aid of ICT
  • account for relevant concepts, theories and perspectives in the field of workplace education

Skills and ability

  • analyse and discuss education and ICT in the workplace from different theories and perspectives

Values and attitudes

  • critically examine and reflect on ICT possibilities and limitations in supporting educational processes at work

Required Knowledge

Basic qualifications for university studies

Form of instruction

Instruction is given in the form of lectures, seminars, group exercises and tutorials. The course is given as campus course with the support of information and communication technology.

Examination modes

The course is examined through the following forms of examination:
 
One individual written home-assignment (Fail, Pass or Pass with distinction)

Active participation at two compulsory seminar-presentations (Fail or Pass)

To pass the course the student has to earn the grade pass on all of the above examinations. To pass the course with distinction the student has to earn the grade Pass with distinction on the written home-assignment as well as a pass grade on the seminar-presentations. The final grades are U (Fail), G (Pass) and VG (Pass with distinction). If special reasons exist, the examiner has the right to decide on another form of examination.

The course work is examined at an ordinary examination and a scheduled re-sit examination. The first re-sit shall be offered no later than two months after the regular test, but not less than ten working days after the results of the regular test have been announced. For tests given during May and June, the first re-sit may be offered within three months of the regular examination session. At least one second re-sit shall be offered within a year of the regular examination session. Examination based on the same course syllabus as for the regular test is guaranteed for a maximum of two years from when the previous course syllabus has ceased to apply or the course has ceased to be offered. Regarding internship/placement, the corresponding rules apply with a limit of one re-sit. By written request to the head of department, a student has the right to change examiner for a course after two failed examinations in the same course or part of a course.
