Quantum Information, 7.5 credits

The purpose of the course is to introduce students to a new interdisciplinary field of quantum information. The following subjects will be considered: Introduction: Basics of classical information and computation, error correction, data compression. Fundamentals of quantum computation: Quantum bits (qubits) and gates, quantum data compression. Quantum algorithms: Factorisation (Shor) search (Grover). Error correction algorithms. Quantum communication: Quantum cryptography. Quantum teleportation. Quantum hardware: Ion traps, nuclear magnetic resonance, optical cavities. Solid state implementations: Josephson junctions, quantum dots.

Solid State Physics, or equivalent.
