Information for students, faculty and staff regarding COVID-19. (Updated: 2 June 2020)
Welcome to join us this Art Friday that sees the opening of two new exhibitions: Design Matters and Ann Edholm / Tongue on the Tip. Artist talks and socializing in the exhibitions, as well as restaurant/bar/café all evening. Guest DJ: Nora Karlsson/Boys. Free admission.
The exhibition "Design Matters" presents objects and technologies that may soon become part of our everyday lives. In an age in which we face major challenges, the design of the future has the potential to mark out new pathways. We must produce and consume differently.
The exhibition is produced by Bildmuseet and will be inaugurated in 2019 when our neighbour the Umeå Institute of Design celebrates its 30th anniversary.

ANN EDHOLM / TONGUE ON THE TIP
Ann Edholm wants her paintings to be experienced as an encounter with a human being, direct and physical. Despite their sharply defined geometric shapes, Edholm's imagery is based on human experience and contains cultural and symbolic references. Using oil paint mixed with wax - thinly applied layer upon layer - she imbues her paintings with a physical, bodily materiality
Ann Edholm (b. 1953) lives and works in Nyköping, Sweden. She was educated at Gerlesborgsskolan and the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, and is represented in art institutions such as Moderna Museet, the Gothenburg Museum of Art and the Public Art Agency Sweden.

DJ this Art Friday is Nora Karlsson, Stockholm based musician with roots in Umeå and best known as the solo project Boys. The debut album Rest in Peace (2018) was praised by the critics, and Sonic Magazine answered their own question: “What the record makes you think of? Love. Friendship. Loyalty. Strokes of grief.” Hopefully, there will be one or two songs from the album in the mix that she chooses for us as DJ this evening.
Bildmuseet is open all day, but the Friday evening activities start at 17:00. The restaurant offers a light menu if you want to have a snack. The Art Friday will be open until 21:00, and then it is just a short walk to Umeå’s nightlife if you want to continue the evening.
