Time Saturday 22 September, 2018 at 10:00 - 16:30
Place Norra Beteendevetarhuset, Våning 4.

Background and purpose

Climate change has imposed great threat to our environment, health, and human life that we used to live, especially in the north near arctic area. This has and will create more stress to an already stressed everyday living for most people. How to adapt and build resilience to the changing climate and environment is the key to a successful living of people, especially in the north. Therefore, a workshop for building resilience to a changing environment may help to reduce climate anxiety. This will increase good health and wellbeing of people - the Third of the 17 goals in United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Wellbeing depends on both external and internal factors. Most approaches to climate change and wellbeing focus on external factors, the threats to our health. This workshop focuses on the internal factors - building mental preparedness to climate change.

Activities

This one-day workshop focuses on learning tools to deal with stress. It includes short lectures, meditation (guided, walking and mindful), laughter yoga, mind-body connection and expressive dance. Music will be used. You may bring one or two songs to be used for dance. Participants will be given time to share experiences after each activity.

Leaders

Two people will lead the workshop: Dr. Jing Helmersson (two PhDs with one in Physics, USA 1989 and one in Public Health, Umeå 2018) and Maria Petersson (former emergency nurse).
