The title or the central question of Louise’s seminar is as follows: Where should public services be located, and how can decision-makers make these hard decisions in a legitimate way?
In this seminar, Louise presents her research on the location of public services, with a particular focus on how politicians and public officials legitimise decisions that often have uneven consequences for urban and peripheral areas. She begins with an overview of the research field and the book on the topic that she and her colleagues published in 2024. The seminar then turns to one of the project’s case studies on public indoor swimming pools, illustrating how even a seemingly ordinary public facility can confront decision-makers with challenging political trade-offs
